JAWA is a jazz quintet based between Marseille and Aix-en-Provence: five musicians and one crossbred language, intricate yet always flowing and direct. An invitation to travel along the shores of the Mediterranean, where water and light meet...

On “In a nutshell...”, JAWA delivers seven original compositions — a debut album that puts the quintet's Mediterranean jazz on record.
Recorded in April 2026 at Denger Studios (Marseille) by Gerald Kuentz. Mixed in June 2026 at NaNA Studio (Aix-en-Provence) by Lorenzo Ponce. Compositions by Jérôme Lopez, except 06 by Lorenzo Ponce.

Jazz Against World Anxiety — five musicians playing a jazz of mixed roots, intricate yet always flowing and direct.
JAWA blends the intertwined breath of saxophones and clarinets with the pulse of the piano / double bass / drums trio, all in the service of original compositions: an invitation to travel along the shores of the Mediterranean, where water and light meet...

Soprano sax / Clarinets
A classically trained clarinettist, he fell for jazz early on without ever forgetting where he came from. Writing at the piano, he found in JAWA the sounding board that brings to life themes and harmonies drawn from journeys both outward and inward.

Tenor / soprano sax
Self-taught, he plays tenor and soprano saxophone with feverish, electric energy. Drawing on the greats of the instrument — Wayne Shorter, Archie Shepp — he often returns to the source, back when jazz was still drums on the edge of the African desert.

Piano
Trained at the IMFP and the Aix conservatory, Clément is a chameleon of a musician. From solo piano to larger line-ups, the swing is always there. With a smile that gives away his passion, he brings a solid rhythmic presence and rich harmony, plus a right hand that spins off into airy, inspired solos.

Double bass
A multi-instrumentalist bassist, composer and arranger, Lorenzo discovered jazz at fifteen and never really left. After years of stages and festivals in his youth, he now brings his experience and inventive playing to build the foundations of JAWA.

Drums
He entered the conservatory at sixteen in the percussion class and quickly gravitated to the drum set, and to the snare in particular. After exploring pop and rock, he committed fully to jazz, chasing subtlety of touch and rhythmic complexity in the service of interplay.
